Senior Jennifer Griffin (Whittier, Calif.) has been selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-West Region team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday.
Griffin, who was recently tabbed the co-Big West Field Player of the Year, has anchored the 49er offense as she leads the team in slugging percentage (.615), on base percentage (.497), RBI (40), runs scored (35), doubles (17) and home runs (8). She also ranks second on the squad with a .329 batting average and established an LBSU single-season record in walks (48). In addition, Griffin is a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases attempts.
Griffin has started every contest at third base and is one of Long Beach State’s top defensive performers, committing just four errors in 122 chances (.967).
In her two years at The Beach, Griffin has etched her name in the school’s record books. She currently tops the charts with a .332 career batting average, while ranking third in both doubles (33) and walks (84).
The all-region honorees will be eligible for selection to the All-America teams, which will be announced on May 27.
Long Beach State returns to action tomorrow when it opens the NCAA Division I Softball Championship at the Los Angeles Regional against No. 2 seed and host UCLA at 3:30 p.m.
