Junior outfielder Ashley Weber (Yorba Linda, Calif./Mater Dei HS) has been named the Big West Softball Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Weber earned her first career weekly honor after playing a key role in the 49ers’ 2-1 series win over Cal State Fullerton as she batted .636 (7-for-11) with two RBI, three runs scored and three doubles. She also laid down her conference-leading 24th sacrifice bunt.

In the opener, Weber went 3-for-3 while scoring two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh. She kept her hot bat in the second contest of the day with three more hits, two of them doubles, and a pair of RBI. Her two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning gave LBSU its first lead after falling behind 1-0 early in the game.

Weber connected for her third double of the weekend in her first at-bat in the series finale.

On the season, Weber is tops on the team with a .341 batting average. She has compiled 47 hits, 23 runs scored, 16 RBI and nine doubles.

Long Beach State returns to action when it heads to UC Riverside for a three-game Big West series, May 2-3. The two teams will open the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon at Amy S. Harrison Field.
