Long Beach State completed a three-game sweep on the road against Pacific, winning 10-3 on Sunday afternoon. Devin Lohman and TJ Mittelstaedt both finished with home runs and three hits.
Long Beach State pounded out 10 runs on 15 hits, with five players recording multiple hits on the day. On the mound, Jake Thompson pitched seven innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs.
Pacific took the lead for the first time in the series, as Thompson got out to a slow start, giving up three straight singles to start the game. Despite the jam, the Dirtbags got out of the inning while allowing just two runs across.
The Beach then put together another big inning, again stringing together hits effectively. With one runner on in the third, Devin Lohman doubled to score Jonathan Jones for a first run in the inning, and then after a hit batter, the Dirtbags connected with two singles and a sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead.
Long Beach State added an unearned run in the fifth, and after a Pacific run in the sixth, the Dirtbags regained a three-run lead with on an RBI double by Mittelstaedt in the seventh.
Lohman hit a solo homer to open up the ninth as the Dirtbags broke the game open. Derek Legg followed with a single, and Mittelstaedt pulled a two-run home run over the right-field wall to score three runs. Doubles from Steve Tinoco and Kellen Hoime added an additional run for Long Beach State.
The Dirtbags play one more game on the road, facing UCLA on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before returning to Blair Field for a three-game series against UC Davis. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
