The Millikan Rams nearly doubled their Moore League offensive production in just five innings on Wednesday against Cabrillo, and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth on their way to a 14-0 win over the Jaguars.
Ram starter Andrew Culver continued to dominate on the mound going five innings with three strikeouts, while allowing just one hit to the first batter of the game, out fielder Armondo Perez. The senior did walk four, but pitched out of trouble three times with men in scoring position.
Junior pitcher Josh Frye came in to pinch-hit for Culver, and grabbed an RBI on an infield single into the hole at short. He then proceeded to face seven batters in the final two innings, and struck out the side in the sixth and seventh. The two pitchers have now combined for 21 consecutive scoreless innings for the Rams (3-0) in the Moore League.
On the second trip through the order, the Jaguars got a decent read on the Culver fastball, but some great defense from shortstop Ralph Davis, second baseman Brandon Dopplick, and two diving catches from right fielder Cody Hazel halted any Cabrillo rally.
The Millikan offense jumped on Cabrillo starter Martin Agredano, led by first baseman Jonathan Singleton, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a walk. Junior Paul Slater went 3-for-3 with a RBI and a walk in the middle of the order as all but one Ram in the lineup got a hit while they racked up 14 to match their 14 runs.
