The Long Beach City College baseball team suffered a 2-1 10-inning South Coast Conference loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

The loss snapped the Vikings’ six-game winning streak and dropped them to 11-4 in the SCC and 18-11 overall. It was just the Vikings’ third loss at home in 13 games this season.

Freshman Jared Smith had another excellent outing in earning a no-decision. He went seven innings, allowed seven hits and one run while striking out five.

Smith gave up a double to Jake Loefke to lead off the game and a run-scoring single two batters later to Enrique Murillo before cruising the rest of the way.

Freshman Cory Buchheim’s bases-loaded fielder’s choice grounder in the bottom of the fourth inning forced in sophomore Trevor Costin for LBCC’s lone run.

Freshman James Dorsey (0-2) earned the loss for the Vikings after allowing the go-ahead run in the 10th.

Sophomores Michael Schultz and Hector Iribe both went 2 for 4 to lead the Long Beach offense.

East Los Angeles starter Julian Marquez matched Smith on the mound. Marquez went 8 1/3 innings, allowing a run and eight hits. Jordan Hartley (2-1) earned the win with 1 2/3 of hitless relief.

Murillo went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to lead East Los Angeles (13-16, 8-7 SCC) at the plate.

Long Beach is at East Los Angeles on Thursday (Apr 2) for a 2:30 p.m. SCC game.
