Freshman Blake Golding pitched eight solid innings and freshman catcher Jonathan Keener drove in three runs to lead the Long Beach City College baseball team to a 4-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Saturday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.
The win extended Long Beach’s winning streak to six games and improved their record to 18-10 overall. The Vikings currently lead the SCC with an 11-3 conference record.
Golding scattered six hits over eight innings. He struck out three and walked one to improve his record to 5-1 overall. His lone mistake was a solo homerun to Harbor’s Carlos Avila in the top of the second.
Keener provided all the offense the Vikings needed. He smashed a two-run homerun to left field in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the ball game.
He also added a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and closed the game batting 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Freshman third baseman Andy Hernandez’ bases-loaded walk in the fourth also forced in a run.
Sophomore Teddy Mitrosilis closed out the game in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
Cody Brumbaugh (3-2) earned the loss for Harbor (13-13, 7-7 SCC). He allowed seven hits and four runs over 7 2/3 innings. Left fielder Alex Salgado went 2 for 4 for the Seahawks.
Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Mar 31) when it hosts East Los Angeles College in a 2:30 pm SCC game.
