Long Beach State junior Michael Drake shot a one-over par 143 after day one of the Triumph at Pauma Valley to finish tied for fourth place at the Pauma Valley Golf Club. Drake is tied with two other players as he recorded a 73 in the opening round and a 70 in the second. He remains just six strokes behind first place John Lim of Loyola Marymount.

The 49ers finished the day in sixth place with a 21-over 589 (307-282). Loyola Marymount (569) leads the field of 12 teams as the Lions hold a nine shot lead over second place University of British Columbia (578), followed by San Francisco (582).

Junior Steve Gibson recorded a 78 and 69 for a five-over 147 to finish tied for 19th. Fellow classman Aaron Slonim, competing as an individual, shot a 76 and 74 for an eight-over 150 as finished the day tied for 32nd.

Freshman Bobby Barajas and Kevin Lim are tied for 37th as both players are nine-over 151, followed by Kevin Roy with an 11-over 153 as he tied for 47th.

Final round play concludes on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
