Tonight, Long Beach State’s hockey team will face off against cross-town rivals Cal State Fullerton on home turf at Glacial Gardens in Lakewood.

The LBSU-CSUF rivalry is one that has long existed—and rightfully so, not only due to proximity, but the competitive nature of each of the university’s impressive athletics programs.

Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) holds a nationally recognized baseball team while also having the boasting rights of thirteen national championships in eight different sports. Meanwhile, Long Beach State (CSULB) also holds a nationally recognized baseball team—the epicenter of the rivalry—while continuously ranking in the top 40 schools since 2001 within the realm of athletics.

On the ice, however Long Beach is coming off of a strong week, with wins at all three of its previous games. With wins against 2011 Western Region #3 Colorado State (8-5), Cal. State Northridge (12-8), and USC (4-2), the 49ers look to extend their streak as the end of the first ranking period ends this month.

49er ice hockey will face its Fullerton rival tonight at 7:30PM. The hockey game is the only game the team has this weekend and CSULB President F. King Alexander will be there to drop the ceremonial puck.

The supporters of CSULB hockey ask that you support 3rd Nut, their newest sponsor—as any purchase from the company will give the team 20% in return.

Glacial Gardens is located at 3975 Pixie Avenue in Lakewood.
