In conjunction with all Big West Conference schools, including our own Long Beach State, FOX Sports Networks announced a major media rights agreement that will make FOX Sports West—along with Prime Ticket and FOX Sports San Diego—the exclusive broadcasters of the 2012-13 Big West sporting events.
“This agreement with FOX continues a partnership that began more than 15 years ago,” said Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell in a press release. “The Big West’s continued growth and stability contributed to the overall expansion of the package and the increased exposure through the cable and digital platforms will only enhance the Conference brand.”
After a phenomenal year with LBSU basketball star Casper Ware, who has started his pro career abroad in Italy, and a trip to the NCAA tourney, all regular season men’s basketball games, four men’s basketball tournament quarterfinal games, and the women’s basketball tournament championship game—along with the soccer and track and field championships—will be exclusively aired on various FOX Sports networks.
And for those without cable, there is something still in it for you: starting in November, FOX Sports will pair with the Big West Conference to launch a free-acess video streaming platform that will cover some 800 live events throughout the academic calendar.
“We’re proud to be long-term partners with the Big West Conference,” said Steve Simpson, senior vice president and general manager, FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket in a press release. “The schools that represent the Conference are an ideal complement to the regionally relevant programming focus of FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket and we look forward to showcasing multiple sports and the remarkable student-athletes that represent the Big West.”
As for the 2013-14 season, San Diego State will join the Big West, making the media agreement will see the channels televising at least 32 sporting events per year.
