When the Dirtbags do their annual Baseball Youth night at Blair, they don’t do it halfway—the entire roster, and the entire coaching staff, including Mike Weathers, were there to host over 120 little leaguers in a relaxed minicamp atmosphere. Athletes from a bunch of leagues were there, including Long Beach Little League, Long Beach Pony, Los Altos Cal Ripken, Heartwell Cal Ripken, Lakewood Village, Los Al Little League, Seal Beach Pony.
The night opened around five when coach Weathers gave a brief speech to the kids and their parents in the stands at Blair, then Dirtbags Kirk Singer and John Hill talked to the young players about the importance of school and reading. After that the players went to their positions on the field and worked individually with their young counterparts in a mini instructional clinic. After that all the Dirtbags signed autographs and took pictures with the kids—it’s the kind of event you expect a quality program like the Dirtbags to host, and we’re glad to see they’re continuing the tradition.
