Not much was up for grabs yesterday, since Poly, Millikan, Wilson, and Jordan were all guaranteed playoff spots, in that order. But with Millikan and Jordan playing, and Wilson taking on winless Compton, how the teams fared was important for momentum.
For senior night, Millikan coach Lorene Morgan started all seniors–the Rams beat the Panthers, 56-34. Leading scorer for the Rams was Ashley Mitchell with 12 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds.
Wilson beat Compton by a large margin of 52 points, and coach Byron Ferguson was able to rest his starters in advance of the playoffs.
As for Cabrillo, who beat Lakewood yesterday, their two losses to Jordan mean that even though they’re tied with them in the final league standings, they don’t get an automatic berth because they lost both games to the Panthers. They will apply for an at-large bid, and may have a shot with wins over playoff bound Wilson and the no. 4-seeded Rams. We’ll keep you posted.
Final standings coming this weekend, and playoff brackets will be posted live on Sunday as they’re announced!
