The game may not have been the standing room only atmosphere of the Fullerton match last week, but no one that was there to feel the Pyramid rocking would claim that Long Beach didn’t have the home court advantage on Saturday night against Pacific.  I won’t say that the heckling won the double overtime game, but it might have had something to do with some crucial missed free throws in the second extension and the general feeling of “not in our house” that brought the players into the stands at the end of the night.  And as if high-fives from some of the Beach’s best weren’t enough, here’s some well-deserved awards for Saturday’s heckling.

Best Sign That, In Retrospect, Maybe Would Have Made More Sense If The Tigers’ School Acronym Had Been CUP:  I’m especially confused by the giant bite that seems to have been taken out of the top corner…

Best Sign That Doubles As A PSA About Childhood Diabetes:  I think there’s also probably a Michael Phelps joke in here somewhere.

Most Versatile Sign (The “Short And Sweet” Award):  This sign was waved in the air dozens of times– for airballs, bad refereeing, and general taunting.  It’s so simple, yet so biting.

Real Estate Award For Location, Location, Location:  These guys thought it was time for the Tigers to hear heckling in stereo, so they migrated to the seat-back side of the court to show the folks who paid for their seats how it’s done.  I think they freaked some of their neighbors out, but as second overtime ticked away, they helped get the whole ‘Myd on its feet.

Missed Opportunity Award:  Am I the only one who thought the placement of the Big West logo on the Pacific unis was a bit…mockable?  Guess so.

Best Sign, Period:  I found this on the Monson Maniacs’ supply table.  I later saw it in the student section, but it’s much more dramatic this way.  It’s a sign that takes the time to say “You’re not worth my time.”  It’s not just ironic, it’s award-winning.

Sign From The Opposing Bench That Most Succinctly Describes LBSU’s Place In The Conference:  Boom.

I can’t be everywhere at once, and I know I didn’t hear every shout, cheer, and catcall that helped the 49ers bring home the victory.  Let me know what I missed!  The men’s basketball team won’t be back in the ‘Myd till February 21st, but the volleyball team will be at home this Thursday versus Hawai’i… get your heckles ready!
