In the wooded east, the 49er women are laying the lumber.  At this weekend’s Harvard Invitational, the women’s volleyball team is 3-0, with just one match remaining, against the host school.  The first game, on Friday, was against Central Connecticut, an easy three set victory with a combined score of 75-39 in the sweep.  The 49ers hit .363, and forced Central Connecticut to record more errors than kills.

The second game, played later that day, against Dartmouth, didn’t pose much more of a challenge.  The 49ers won in straight sets again, by a total score of 75-33, giving them a total of 150-72 on the day.  Unsurprisingly, they were led by Quincy Verdin (named all-tournament last week in Florida), with 11 kills.  Caitlin Ledoux added 10.

The early game on Saturday, against American University, was a nail-biter, however.  The 49ers won in dramatic fashion, 15-13 in the fifth and final set.  Ledoux and Ashley Lee both stood out with double-doubles, Lee setting a personal best mark of 21 digs.  The 49ers took the first set easily, winning 25-13, but lost a battle in the second 26-28.  Then it was 25-18 and 23-25 before the final set.  The 49ers now go on to play Harvard in the fourth and final game of the tournament, this evening—if they defeat the Crimson Tide, they’ll capture the tournament championship, and end a long east coast trip on a positive note.  Their last game in the ‘Myd was way back in August, before they headed to Florida and Massachusetts.
