After a near perfect start to their season on Friday, the 49er women put on an impressive show against Missouri State (1-2) to remain perfect three games into the season, with a  a 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 win on the second day of the Long Beach State Invitational.

Caitlin Ledoux added 10 kills and 18 digs to finish off a solid first weekend in a 49er uniform, while Cat Highmark had 12 kills and Nicole Vargas had her second double double of 48 assists and 11 digs. Iris Murray had 27 digs in a solid first weekend back from knee surgery, as the 49ers hit .389 in the final set and .203 for the match.

Washington’s three straight kills closed out the match, at 23-15 in the fourth. LBSU built the lead from a assist at 15-12 and never looked back. A Highmark kill made it 20-15, before Washington took over to close it out.  Washington and Highmark traded kills in game three to lead them to a 25-19 win. Highmark’s kills gave the 49ers a 21-17 and 23-18 advantage, while Washington’s kills made it 16-11 and 22-18.

The 49ers evened the match at 25-20, as Highmark’s kill put the 49ers up 24-19 en route to the win. Ledoux scored a kill to give the 49ers a 21-18 lead as MSU was forced to use a timeout a play later, trailing by four. Eight straight points put the 49ers up 9-4 to start, before Highmark’s kill made it 16-12. MSU had closed to within 12-11 following their 11th block of the set.

Missouri State won game one, 25-23, after the 49ers fought off four set points to close to within one on a Quincy Verdin kill. A slow start for the 49ers saw then trail 8-3 early, before Ledoux’s kill closed the gap to 17-14. LBSU hit just .093.  The 49ers are next in action when they travel to Florida for three matches next weekend, beginning at Florida State on September 4.
