After all the craziness in Atlanta, we headed east to the Georgia coast, and perpetually sunny Savannah, Georgia, a welcome respite from the thunderstorms we’d experienced over the last few nights.  The city was hopping, partly because Spring has fully sprung here in Georgia, and partly because the Champions Tour (formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour) was on its final day of the Legends of Golf.

In the heart of Savannah, a pretty little town I could happily live in, is a good-sized park called Forsythe Park, which reminded me of Heartwell and El Dorado.  Unlike a lot of urban parks, which seem to be primarily ornamental, Forsythe (like Heartwell and the Dorado) was hopping with activity, as locals took advantage of the perfect day to play soccer, ultimate Frisbee, softball, catch, tennis, basketball, and touch football, all on one big plot of open grass, ringed by trees.  And technically, the basketball and tennis were on basketball and tennis courts (respectively).

Yes, it was a lot like Long Beach, except that all of this was taking place under the literal shadow of a very tall Confederate Soldiers memorial statue.  Which I don’t recall ever happening when I was midfielder for the AYSO Studmuffins.
