10:00am | LBCC Baseball: Vikings manage just four hits in 6-0 loss to Golden West

The Long Beach City College (LBCC) baseball team suffered a 6-0 non-conference loss to visiting Golden West College on Thursday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

LBCC (3-5 overall) managed just four hits in the contest, grounded into three double plays, and committed three errors that led to three unearned runs.

Golden West (7-4-1) scored single runs in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings and put up a pair of runs in the fifth.

Long Beach freshman starting pitcher Jake Angus (Pacifica HS) took the loss to fall to 0-1. He allowed just three hits and two earned runs (four runs total), but was wild as he walked two and hit three batters. Freshman David Aispuro (Jordan HS) and sophomore Javier Saenz (Santa Fe HS) closed out the game with scoreless innings of relief.

Nicholas Hanson (3-0) cruised for the Rustlers as he scattered three hits over seven innings and struck out four. Daniel DeWolf led Golden West at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and two runs.

The two teams conclude the two-game series on Saturday (Feb 25) at 12 pm back at Golden West.

LBCC Softball: Four-run fourth-inning gives Long Beach to 4-1 win over LA Harbor

LBCC softball team picked up a 4-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Thursday at LBCC.

The win improved Long Beach to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play while Harbor dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the SCC.

Long Beach rallied for all four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, freshman Melyssa Rivas forced in a run after she was hit by a pitch. Freshman Liz Melendrez followed with the big blow as she delivered with a three-run triple to cap the LBCC rally.

Freshman Frances Campoy picked up the win to improve to 6-3 overall this season. The Vikings return to action on Friday (Feb 24) when they travel to Santa Barbara City College for a 2:30 pm non-conference game.
