Garret Anderson should not be playing LF. I know it’s an honor to start Opening Day on the field as a defender, but that point aside, Gary Matthews Jr. should fill that role the remainder of the season. The Angels gave up two bloop doubles to the Twins in their Opener that could have been prevented had any of the other Angels outfielders (Matthews Jr., Willits, Rivera) been roaming left field.
– Torii Hunter emotions clearly affected his play in the opening series against his former club. Hunter went 3 for 12 in the with 4 K’s, and aside from a solo home run he hit in the final game of the series he failed to drive in any runs from the 5-hole.
– If you’ve never seen Twins reliever Pat Neshek pitch before, watch this video.
– The Angels Home Opener against the Texas Rangers was a total disappointment for two reasons. First, the Angels got destroyed 11-6. Secondly, being the true Southern California sports fan I am I left the game with the Rangers leading 11-0 in the 8th inning only to miss the 6 run rally the Angels put together in the bottom of the 9th.
– If there was a Quadruple-A league, Angels’ reliever Jason Bulger would be pitching there. Instead Bulger will continue to perform admirably at Triple-A and get continually rocked in the Majors. (J. Bulger – 3IP 4H 3ER 3K’s)
– Howie Kendrick is a stud. He’s started this season going 12 for 27 with 6 runs, 3 RBI’s and 2 SB’s. He’s leading the Angels in all statistical categories except home runs (Mike Napoli).
– Question? If the Angels can afford to spend $90M of Torii Hunter, why can’t they spend $0.5M fixing the electronic stadium sign as you enter the stadium on State College Blvd? Oh wait, I think I just answered that question myself.
– Only three home games into the season and I already want to shoot myself whenever I hear that stupid Ruby’s Diner theme song.
– A quick shout out to the guy in Section P239 Row N Seat 21that hooked me up with the carnitas tacos during the game. Who knew you could bring an entire refrigerator’s worth of food into the stadium
– The Angels are off to a 4-3 start so far. It could be worse; we could be playing like the Tigers right now (0-6). Yeah, who’da’thunk’it?
– BOLD PREDICTION OF THE WEEK – Torii Hunter hits 3 HR’s this week against former division rival Cleveland and AL-West arch-nemesis Seattle.
