1:45pm | Junior infielder Matt Duffy has been chosen to represent the East Division as an All-Star for the Cape Cod League, as announced by the prestigious summer college league.
The Cape Cod League is traditionally home to the top collegiate baseball players in the offseason, and Duffy was recognized as one of its best, being selected to represent his team, Orleans, as the East Division’s starting shortstop.
Duffy currently stands fifth in the league with a .309 batting average, and has five doubles and a home run over 33 games in the wood-bat league. The infielder is coming off of a season at Long Beach State where he led the Dirtbags in RBI with 31 and earned a second-team All-Big West selection at second base.
The Cape Cod All-Star game will be held on this Friday, July 29, at Fenway Park in Boston.
Duffy’s selection marks the second year in a row that Long Beach State will have a starter in the Cape All-Star Game. Fellow 2010 All-Big West selection Drew Gagnon was named the starting pitcher for last year’s all-star game for the premier league.
