The rule around here is going to be that I can write about the Grand Prix of Long Beach for as long as the 1.97-mile track is standing. And since the track is on public city streets, that means that we have year-round coverage to look forward to.

Let’s kick things off with a fun and beautifully-filmed short video from Corvette Racing, documenting their time at the 2011 American Le Mans Series race here just last weekend. The historically dominant racing team has struggled in a wildly competitive GT class and faced numerous challenges at Long Beach – perfectly summarized in the video above. You feel the painful errors and triumphant successes, summed up nicely by Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan, with emphasis on what makes Long Beach special in the final seconds of the video:

“Anytime you can come out of the Long Beach Grand Prix, one of the most treacherous concrete-lined race tracks in the world, with two cars relatively unscathed that you had to take to Le Mans, and you can come away with a second place finish and a fifth place finish, you can be damn proud.”
