Our photographers at the 2011 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach over the weekend took so many incredible shots that we’re still getting around to editing some of them. Here’s a set from Dale Brown that is a must-see for any classic rock fan. Scratch that, any music fan in general.
The free Tecate Light Rock-N-Roar Concert for ticket-holders held at the end of Saturday racing by the Grand Prix of Long Beach has become one of the major events of the entire weekend. In recent years, they’ve welcomed big-name bands like Pennywise – though after police needed to come out in riot gear following that show, the acts have taken a more classic feel – and Cheap Trick to the stage. This year was no different. Fans were taken back with timeless hits like “Born To Be Wild,” “Magic Carpet Ride” and “Rock Me” from Canadian-American band Steppenwolf and lead singer John Kay.
Kay is the only remaining original member of the group that reached impressive heights in the ’60s and ’70s, but that hardly made a difference on Saturday night as the crowd topped off a day of racing with a tall glass of rock.
