2:12 pm | Long Beach State allowed a season-high 20 hits as the Dirtbags fell 14-2 to UC Riverside in the final game of the series on Sunday. 

UC Riverside (16-14) opened the scoring in the top of the third, as Trevor Hairgrove started the inning with a grounder to third base that Michael Hill was unable to field, allowing the Highlander shortstop to move to second. Following the error, Ryan Goetz followed with an RBI single, and back-to-back hits from Justin Shults and Tony Nix put the Highlanders on top 3-0.

After adding a fourth run in the top of the fourth, the Highlanders broke open the game in the top of the fifth. Victor Gonzales singled to start the inning, and after a walk, Kirk Singer mishandled a potential double-play ball to load the bases. A double by Phil Holinsworth brought home two runs, and then a single by Hairgrove scored two more as UC Riverside took an 8-0 lead. 

Long Beach State (18-16) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Kirk Singer and Brennan Metzger each reached on infield singles, and after moving into scoring position following a wild pitch by Trevor Frank, the Dirtbags cut into the lead with a two-run single from Jeff McNeil. 

UC Riverside added four runs over the final three innings to account for the final score. Hairgrove finished with five hits for the Highlanders, while Trevor Frank pitched eight innings for UCR, striking out six.
 

The Dirtbags will not play an out-of-conference game this week, as Long Beach State continues Big West play on Thursday on the road at UC Santa Barbara.
