12:15pm | The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team rolled to its ninth straight win last Friday night after defeating visiting Los Angeles Pierce College 3-0 in a Western State Conference match at LBCC.

The Vikings swept the Brahmas by scores of 25-19, 25-10, and 27-25 to improve to 10-2 overall and close out the first round of conference play undefeated at 5-0.

Freshman right side Max Wechsung (St. John Bosco High School) had his finest match in a LBCC uniform tonight, posting match-highs with 15 kills, six digs, five blocks, and three aces.

Wechsung set the tone early, collecting seven kills in the opening frame. Fittingly, he closed out the sweep with a booming kill down the heart of the Pierce court.

The Vikings totaled an impressive .478 attack percentage on the night and hit .500 in both the first and second set. Sophomore outside hitter Parker Del Re (Highland, Ariz.) added 11 kills and sophomore setter Chris Austin (Henderson, Nev.) led all with 37 assists.

Second-place Pierce dropped to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the WSC. Jon Suisa led Pierce with 10 kills and AK Gharwal totaled 25 assists.

The Vikings return to action on Friday  when they travel to Moorpark College for a 6 p.m. WSC match.
