OMG he’s finally here. Nick Adenhart will make his MLB debut tonight for the Angels as they host the Oakland A’s. Adenhart who is 4-0 with a 0.87 ERA in five starts with Triple-A Salt Lake will become the youngest player in the Major Leagues (21 years-old) when he starts this evening.
Already the Angels top-pitching prospect, the 6’3 righty is taking the place of Dustin Moseley, who will most likely be moved to the bullpen. The Angels have not announced whose spot Adenhart will take at this time, but it will most likely be Matt Brown who will be odd man out in the infield upon Howie Kendrick’s return on Friday.
Adenhart has come a long way since he was drafted in 2004. One week after the Angels selected him in the fourteenth round of the 2004 draft, Adenhart had potential career ending Tommy John surgery. Adenhart spent a little over the next year rehabilitating his elbow in Tempe, AZ before returning to the mound June 25, 2005. Adenhart features an arsenal of pitches, but he often works hitters with a mighty four-seam and two-seam combo of fastballs. His heater tops out in the mid-90’s, but he gets a lot of sink on his pitches, so expect a lot of groundballs this evening.
Also, stay tuned for my weekend update where I provide a wrap-up on the Smooth’s Party Bus to the Saturday’s Angel game and my face-to-face with Angels Owner, Arte Moreno … Seriously, I met Arte Moreno. Seriously.
