We’ve got one more trophy to give away at the end of the year, and hopefully we can do it for years to come. LBPOSTsports.com is proud to announce that at the end of the 2009-10 school year we will tally all the sports standings and find out which school has earned the LBPOSTsports Moore League Cup.  It’s all based on the season-ending standings and postseason performances, so allow us to explain…

1) At the end of the season, each team that participated will receive points.  The number of points is based on the number of teams in each sport.  For example, seven teams participate in girls’ volleyball, so the Wilson girls’ volleyball team would earn seven points for their 2009 Moore League Championship.  Lakewood finished second, so they would get six points, and so on down the line. In case of a tie, all teams get most points possible (so if two teams tied for second in girls’ volleyball, both would earn six points.)  The school with the most league titles at the end of each season (ie: fall, winter, spring) will receive one bonus point.

2) Each team that makes it to the postseason gets a point for each win in the CIF Playoff bracket.  The points are awarded for advancing in the a bracket, so there are no points for a play-in/wild card game, but a bye in the first round is worth a point.  A team also receives an additional point for qualifying for a championship game or meet, and a three-point bonus for any CIF Championship victory.

3) Wins in the State bracket do not earn points, but a one-point bonus will be awarded for appearing in a State championship game, and a three-point bonus for any State Championship victory (these points are in addition to points awarded in the Sectional postseason).

4) We are talking about team sports and results only.  For example, in tennis and golf the final team standings and playoff wins will count, but not results from tournaments for the individual players.

5) Also, field of play only.  No mythical National Championships, top MaxPreps rankings, or any of that monkey business.  Additionally, only results from varsity competition will count.

6) Only Moore League sports.  If it doesn’t have a schedule with the Harry J. Moore Seal on it then it doesn’t count for the Cup.  We will take results from:

Fall:

Boys’ cross country

Girls’ cross country

Football

Girls’ golf

Girls’ tennis

Girls’ volleyball

Boys’ water polo

Winter:

Boys’ basketball

Girls’ basketball

Boys’ soccer

Girls’ soccer

Girls’ water polo

Wrestling

Spring:

Baseball

Boys’ golf

Gymnastics

Softball

Boys’ swimming

Girls’ swimming

Boys’ tennis

7) In the event of a tie, total league championships will decide the winner.  If total league titles are the same, we will go head-to-head record over all sports for any time the schools played.  We’re willing to do the math.

We’ll announce the standings at the end of the season, and when we present the trophy at the end of the school year, it is for that school to keep for the next year until another school wins it.  Come back to LBPOSTsports on Thursday to see where we stand after an amazing Fall season.
