The Long Beach Armada Professional Baseball Team will send four player including former Major League All-Star Jose Lima to the Golden Baseball League 2009 All-Star Game in St. George, Utah, on July 14. Lima, the team’s opening day starter, will join catcher Andy Bouchie, shortstop Omar Bramasco and pitcher Ben Fox at Bruce Hurst Field for the game at Bruce Hurst Field.
Lima, a 13-year major league veteran, is third in the GBL in innings pitched with 53 1/3 innings in seven starts, an average of 7 2/3 innings each outing. His 3.21 ERA is fifth-best in the league, and he has struck out 30 batters while walking just six this season. Lima (2-4) was selected to the MLB All-Star game in 1999 as a member of the Houston Astros.
Catcher Andy Bouchie has been dominant behind the plate, constantly throwing out runners looking to steal. Bouchie, who spent the last three seasons in the Brewers organization, is hitting .289 this year with 13 extra-base hits including a pair of triples and a pair of homeruns. Bouchie was selected as an all-star catcher in the Pioneer League in 2006.
Shortstop Omar Bramasco is currently leading the Armada with a .369 average and has recorded a hit in the teams last 20 games dating back to May 31. The infielder has one homerun and 20 RBI with a .428 on-base percentage. Bramasco has helped turn nearly two-dozen double plays this season.
Starting pitcher Ben Fox is fresh off a complete game outing against the Scorpions on July 1. Fox, who was selected as a GBL All-Star in 2007, is 3-1 on the year with a 3.40 ERA. He is second on the team in innings pitched and ninth in the league with 45 innings of work. The Las Vegas native has struck out 37 batters while walking 15 so far this season.
Hideki Irabu, who is 4-0 this season for the Armada, took himself out of consideration for the All-Star game due to scheduling conflicts.
