The Armada twice came from behind to beat the Flyers, 8-7, at Goodwin Field on Wednesday. With plenty of offense early the game, Armada relievers Justin Segal and Koichi Misawa combined for three perfect innings to close the game to preserve the win.

One night after a pitchers duel that saw the Armada edge the Flyers, 1-0, with a run in the ninth, the GBL’s biggest rivals combined for 15 runs through the first six innings.

The Armada pulled ahead in a back-and-forth game with three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 8-6 lead. With one out, Omar Bramasco and Steve Moss knocked back-to-back singles, and J.J. Sherrill walked to load the bases. Flyers starter Kevin Altman plunked Andy Bouchie to bring in Bramasco to tie the game, 6-6. Jonny Kaplan knocked a sac-fly into right field to cash Moss, and Sherrill scored on a wild pitch.

Zach Beal made his first start of the year for the Armada, giving up six runs off seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Beal (1-1) struck out two batters while walking five in just his third appearance with the Armada to get his first win of the year. Reliever Justin Segal entered the game in the sixth, giving up an RBI-single to Nick Guerra before locking down the Flyers with 1-2-3 seventh and eighth innings.

Long Beach struck first with three runs in the first inning before the Flyers retaliated with a four-run second.

Kaplan drove in two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies and took away a single when he threw out a batter heading to first base off a ball hit into right field.

Bouchie has a double, a run scored, and a pair of RBIs to bring his season total to 41.

Misawa earned his eighth save of the season.
