Report by the Armada’s Josh Feldman

Saturday night’s game between the Long Beach Armada and St. George RoadRunners was rained out as thunderstorms rolled through southwest Utah leading up to the game.

The first storm cell gusted winds through the ballpark at 4:30pm local time as batting practice began.  The storm lasted 10-15 minutes before blowing through.  Grounds crew workers prepped the field and the game was originally pushed back to a 7:30pm start time.

The umpires inspected the field, and after a handful of delays that had first pitch slated for 8:10pm, a second thunderstorm hit Bruce Hurst Field, raining out the Armada game against the RoadRunners.  Long Beach and St. George will make of the game as part of a doubleheader on Monday, August 24 with Game 1 beginning at 5:00pm, and the second game projected to start at 8:15pm.  All doubleheader games in the Golden Baseball League as seven-inning games.

The Armada (33-34, 13-16 second half) entered Saturday 5.5 games behind first-place Tucson in the GBL’s South Division.  Long Beach, winners of last season’s second-half division crown, have nine games left in the 2009 campaign and currently are in fifth place in the division.

Long Beach will send starters Dusty Gober and Ben Fox to the mound on Monday for the doubleheader.  Both games will be broadcast live on the Armada Radio Network through www.longbeacharmada.com.
