It was a series that swung back and forth like a pendulum—unfortunately for the Long Beach Armada, they just ended up on the wrong side. The Armada lost a frustrating opening game at home, before winning game two in exciting extra innings fashion—then they took game three in Orange County before dropping games four and five, losing the best-of-five first round playoff series against the Orange County Flyers.
After game three, a 13-4 win on the road to take a 2-1 series lead, things looked good for the Armada. They’d won in impressive fashion, with two home runs and excellent defensive play to boot. They had two more games to get one series-closing win. But it didn’t happen—game four took 13 innings to finish, a heartbreaking 4-3 loss for Long Beach. All in all, they left 11 runners on base, and failed to score in the 11th and 12th innings despite having the bases loaded in each.
Hopes were still high for the fifth and final game, also played in Orange Country, but the Armada went down fast and never got up, falling 12-2 in the elimination game. They’d closed the season well, with a 15-4 record at the end of the season to make the playoffs. In the end, they came up just one win short of a berth in the GBL Championship.
