The Lakewood Lancers put up a fifth inning big enough for a 9-6 victory over Fullerton High in the Anaheim Lions Tournament yesterday afternoon.
Trailing 5-3, the Lakewood fifth inning started with a sharp single by Joseph Bernal and a walk to JP Crawford. Tyler Leidholdt stayed hot and promptly singled to score Bernal. The junior went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Hunter Jones also had a big day, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Jones, Jeff Yamaguchi, Anthony Razo and Tyler Schultz each drove in the runs in the inning to give the Lancers the 8-5 lead.
Junior Nick Torres got the start and no decision as he pitched 2.2 innings before leaving the game tied 3-3. Lefty Danny Ittner came on in relief for two innings before junior Darren Gidley closed the door. He pitched the final three innings allowing one run on two hits while he struck out two Indians to get the win. The Lancers improve to 16-2 overall and will continue the Lions Tourney today.
