For three innings yesterday at Skip Rowland Field on the campus of Wilson High, the Bruins were getting good pitching, but just couldn’t string hits together to score runs.  Meanwhile, Compton was getting the top of the lineup on base, but failing to push them across.  Same old, same old for these two squads in 2010.

But after the final out of the visitors half of the fourth, a new game (or season, if you will) stared.  The Tarbabes couldn’t get the ball out of the infield against Wilson starter Kyle Ritter, and the Bruin hitters put back-to-back-to-back hits together for the big inning they’ve been waiting for on their way to a 16-2 victory.

“It’s been a weird year,” said Wilson coach Andy Hall.  “We haven’t been able to put it all together, but today we had a better approach at the plate after the third inning…”

The Bruins and Tarbabes both started Moore League play with dramatic, emotional wins.  Both have fallen on hard times (and hard luck) since then, and both have struggled at the plate because of it.  That frustration showed as the lineups were both pressing, getting out of their front foot and staying inpatient.

“That’s when you pop balls up like we did,” said Hall, but when Chris Hubbard singled to center to start the fourth inning, something clicked.  “We just got hits… we stayed in and squared a few up.”

Blake Cooper was then hit by a pitch and Solomon Williams laid down a bunt single to load the bases.  Matt Treece bounced a two-run double off the fence in center, and nine hits later, after every spot in the lineup scoring later, the Bruins had hung an 11 spot on the board.  Cody Harris had a double and two RBI, while Daniel Dewolf added two hits and three runs scored.  Wilson added one run in the fifth and three in the sixth, which included a two-run home run from Keith White.

Ritter went five full innings, giving up two hits and striking out five.  The Tarbabes got their two runs off an error with Ross Johnson on the mound.

“We expect big things, so hopefully this can get us to a spot where we feel like we’re peaking,” said Hall. “That’s where the good stuff happens.”

The Bruins improve to 4-2 in the Moore League, while Compton falls to 2-4
