Aside from filling the shoes of Brett Favre (good luck Aaron Rodgers), I can’t think of many tougher spots to be in than replacing the all-time home run leader and the greatest hitter of his generation (perhaps of all-time), Barry Bonds.
Well, John Bowker is doing that. Just three years removed from starring at Long Beach State, Bowker is filling the (ever-growing) shoes of Barry Bonds quite well. I mean, if you look at the numbers over Bowker’s first few games it’s not tough to imagine his mug gracing the Hall of Fame someday (yes, that’s a joke).
Still, Bowker has made quite an impact already for the hopeless Giants going 4-for-6 with 2 home runs and seven RBI’s through his first 2 Major League games. Just to put that in perspective, here’s a list of some of the most talented players in the game that he’s outperformed in just six measly at-bats:
David Ortiz – 3-for-43, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Troy Tulowitzki – 7-for-44, 0 HR, 0 RBI (What the heck Tulo?)
Miguel Cabrera – 7-for-40, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Alfonso Soriano – 10-for-57, 2 HR, 5 RBI
Adam Dunn – 6-for-36, 1 HR, 5 RBI
