On Saturday in the last day of the Lincoln Classic Tournament played at San Gabriel Mission, the Cabrillo Jaguar softball team out hit their opponents 25-to-2 and finished with two victories to balance their books with a 3-3 overall record.
In the first game, senior pitcher Janessa Martinez pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out ten batters as the Jaguars shut out Bravo, 12-0. Seniors Elena Gutierrez and Janessa Martinez and junior Jacqueline Alvarez each had two hits. Junior catcher Siria Duran had three hits and two RBI while Jacqueline Alvarez had three runs batted in the victory. Markisha Roches, Gutierrez, Martinez, and recent addition from the soccer team Leslie Navarro also added RBI.
In the final game of he Lincoln Classic tournament, Cabrillo beat Franklin 6-0. Once again the pitching of Martinez was stellar, as she pitched another one-hit shutout over six innings while striking out eleven batters. Martinez, Siria and Duran each had four hits in the game. Martinez had three RBI and Duran and Navarro added an RBI each. Roches, Martinez (2), and Duran also each had doubles in the contest.
The Jaguars will play Norwalk on Saturday in the opening of the Whittier Tournament where 16 very good Southern California teams will play.
