One of the biggest complaints you’ll hear from die hard fans of Long Beach athletics (and there are probably more of you out there than you realize) is that Long Beach, with it’s vastly differing neighborhoods, teams, and cultures, often doesn’t feel like it has a cohesive sports community.  To an extent, this is true; what Long Beach has are a number of different, smaller communities, those that support Poly football or Long Beach State basketball.  I’ve met guys who know everything there is to know about the Dirtbags, but couldn’t for the life of them name three basketball or volleyball players.

Perhaps the loftiest goal of this website, as we move forward with our plans for a re-launch next month, and hopefully far into the future from there, is to try and piece those communities together, into an enthusiastic crowd for all Long Beach sports.  Realistically, that’s a bit away!  One of the goals of the re-launch, though, is to provide a forum where Long Beach fans can interact with each other.  Until we’re up and running at full strength, however, I thought I’d provide links to a few boards where you can meet some of your fellow 49er fanatics.

http://members4.boardhost.com/49erSports/ is a good resource for discussing current news—the board is pretty old school, but there are some really dedicated guys over there.

This one isn’t as active, but there is some cool info over there, including a year-by-year analysis of Long Beach State men’s basketball attendance numbers.

Enjoy, and if you’re at one of those boards, we hope to see you here in August!
