What kind of day was it for the Wilson Bruin baseball team?
After a difficult 15-7 loss to the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks in the Inland Empire, the bus broke down on the trip home and a replacement bus didn’t arrive for 90 minutes. “It was insult to injury,” said Wilson head coach Andy Hall.
The #1 seed from the Southwestern league rudely welcomed their CIF Playoff first round opponent with seven runs in the first inning. The Bruins were able to answer in the second and third with six runs of their own, but against three more different pitchers the Nighthawks put up a two spot in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
The Bruins got great at bats from Cody Harris (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R) and Stefan Miladinovich (2-for-4, RBI, R) but they were the only Bruin starters with multiple hits. Murrieta Valley was led by Chad Smith (2-for-5, 4 RBI, R) Kyle Nielsen (3-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 3R) and Michael Jordan (2-for-2, HR, 3 RBI, 2R) as they mashed 13 hits, sent three balls over the fence and added five doubles on a very blustery day.
Wilson finishes 19-11-1 and 9-3 in the Moore League.
