Sometimes when a team gets an at-large bid into the playoffs, it can be like gambling with house money—you’re not supposed to be there anyway, after all. The Lakewood boys’ water polo team was in that situation on the road at Dana Hills, but the Lancers fell 15-8.
Dana Hills has been on a tear, winning their last five matches, against the likes of Capo Valley, Mission Viejo, and Aliso Niguel (their last loss was a 14-13 decision to Poly). The Dana Hills goalie was an absolute wall, notching 14 saves. The Lancers were down 5-3 after one, 8-5 at halftime, and despite a four-goal rally in the fourth, couldn’t close the gap.
