CIF Boys’ Soccer Playoffs
Millikan @ Harvard-Westlake, 3pm
The two teams’ demographic couldn’t be more different in this second round match up, and the styles of play couldn’t be more similar. Disciplined and strong defensively, both squads haven’t lit up the scoreboard but have been successful in low scoring games. The Wolverines have gone to penalty kicks five times this season and won each game.
“We just need to play within ourselves,” said Millikan head coach Rod Petkovic. “If they’re better, then they’re better. We’re just going to beat the ball around.”
The Rams will be able to play that type of one-touch passing soccer for the first time this year as they see field turf for the first time since their CIF finals loss to El Toro last season. Millikan played Harvard-Westlake two years ago and won 1-0. That game included a huge crowd to see Bob Costas’ son, who was a Wolverine.
