The Bruins showed everyone just how good they can be in a 10 minute stretch to start the CIF playoff bracket yesterday at WIlson High.  Kim Marshall found Emily Dillon at the far post in the 2nd minute of the game, and of their first four shots on goal, two went in as the Bruins cruised to a 5-2 win over Simi Valley.  Dillon finished the day off with the last of her three goals for her third hat trick in the last month.

“That’s a nice early playoff win,” said head coach Jason Kirkwood.  “We were the better team on paper and we came out to prove it.”

Wilson’s fast start continued after Dillon’s first goal when Kristyn Benavidez earned a throw in deep in the Simi Valley end.  The throw found Raeline Gonzalez’s feet and she sent it high into the box.  Renee Mendiola was waiting for it and sent it into the net with one touch from her right foot to make it 2-0 in the 8th minute.

Eight minutes later, Marshall started it up again with beautiful service off a free kick.  The volley went to the heart of the box where Mendiola one-touched it in the air to the near post where Krosby Pabst one-touched it home.  Dillon scored her second goal with a strike from the top of the box with three minutes left in the first half, and the Bruins went the half leading 4-0.

Simi played a much better second half and worked more out of the counter attack with an extra defender back.  Wilson took 21 shots on the day but didn’t score again until after two Simi penalty kick goals in the 60th and 76th minute.  Both PKs came after Wilson defenders tripped Simi forwards in the box.  Senior defender Karli Wiesmann was sent off with red card on the first foul, and will miss the second round game.

Dillon netted her third and final goal in the 79th minute, again from the top of the box, to end it 5-2.

WIlson moves on to the second round where they will see Buena, the top seed from the Channel League how beat Tesoro in overtime.  The game will be at Wilson High on Wednesday @ 3pm.
