The Wilson Bruins survived the Moorpark Musketeers rush in the first half and scored twice in a five minute stretch to escaped with the CIF quarterfinal win on the road, 2-0.

“We knew they were going to come out excited and they had us pinned in our end for about the first ten minutes,” said Wilson head coach Jason Kirkwood.  “But we survived and got some momentum on the counter attack.”

Kristyn Benavidez got the Bruins their first goal with great build up on the wing before she found Emily Dillon on the corner of the box at the 17 minute mark.  Dillon pulled her classic quick turn and sent a high volley into the top corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Kaitlin Hellmann assisted on the second goal five minutes later with her corner kick fell within a big group of players on the near post.  Players from both teams took swings at the ball, but Brittny Vaughn connected and made it 2-0.

The Musketeers really only had one good chance to score at the end of the half before the Bruins put four defenders back in the second half.  Vaughn, Karli Wiesmann, Syndey Wells, Deanna Empleo played an incredible game on the back line, and at the mid field Krosby Pabst played her best game of the playoffs and held Moorpark’s best player Ari Martinez in check.

With the victory, Wilson will return home on Tuesday to see San Clemente in the semifinals.  Stay tuned to LBPOSTsports.com for the preview and full coverage.
