A little slow getting this up, (sorry again, wrestlers), but Millikan and Lakewood both had a good run at the CIF team meet last Saturday at Montclair High, as Millikan lost “by criteria,” and Lakewood made it to the semifinals.
Millikan lost a decision to Ayala, though their three top wrestlers (James Kuwata, Abel Moran, and Nick Pena) all posted wins. The Rams posted a tie in points, but lost by criteria—like tennis, when there’s a tie CIF rules have a tiebreak they can fall back on. In wrestling, it’s matches won, and Millikan lost 8-6.
Lakewood smashed Coachella Valley 68-13 in the opening round, then beat Oxnard 61-16 in the semifinals. But North Torrance stepped up and took down the Lancers 38-25 in the semifinals.
The Lancers had four wrestlers win three matches, as John Barrera, Nick Martinez, Ryne Griswold, and Stephen Araujo all went 3-0, and Kimo Napohaku won two and won a third by forfeit.
The CIF individual meet, with all the wrestlers from above and scads more from the Moore League (including Poly’s Preciado brothers), will be held this Friday and Saturday, at John Glenn High School.
