Former Long Beach State player and Washington Nationals farm product Danny Espinosa was one of 25 players picked to represent the United States in the 2009 Futures Game which will be shown live on ESPN2 on Sunday, July 12 at 11 a.m. PT.
The Futures game perennially features top minor league talent during All-Star Weekend, and many of those players continue to move on to the main event, with over 200 former futures players making the major leagues and producing 39 All-Stars.
All 30 Major League teams are represented by at least one player on either the United States or World squads, with Espinosa representing the Washington Nationals. Espinosa is the lone shortstop on the United States roster.
Along with being noted as an above-average defender, Espinosa has had a fine season for the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League, hitting .259 with nine home runs and 36 RBI.
