Reports From LBSU

Senior first baseman Steve Tinoco was named the Big West Co-Player of the Week as announced by the conference office today.

Tinoco hit. 800 over on the week, going 8-for-10 with five RBI and three walks, carrying Long Beach State to a two-game sweep of Arizona on the road. Among Tinoco’s big hits on the weekend were a double and game-winner against the Wildcats on Friday, capping a ninth-inning comeback in an 8-7 win.

Against UCLA, Tinoco was a bright spot in loss for the Dirtbags, going 2-for-2 and accounting for nearly half of the team’s five hits. He then added three hits in both Friday and Saturday’s contests with Arizona.

Tinoco is the first Long Beach State field player to win the award since Jonathan Jones in 2008. It is the first career weekly award for the senior.
