Reports From LBSU

Joey Terdoslavich had two hits for Long Beach State, but late pitching troubles doomed the Dirtbags in an 8-2 loss to Hawaii on Wednesday.

Long Beach State took the lead in the third inning, as Kellen Hoime led off the inning with a single, and came around to score on a two-out single by Terdoslavich.

Hawaii tied the game in the fourth inning as Long Beach State starter Nate Underwood allowed his first hit, a leadoff triple that led to a sacrifice fly by David Freitas. Two more runs came home for the Rainbows in the fifth on a home run from Kevin McDonald and another sacrifice fly.

The Dirtbags cut the lead back to one in the seventh. Steve Tinoco led off the inning with a single, and came around to score on hits from Matt Duffy and Kirk Singer. Duffy was caught off second base on a pick off, and the rally was ended before Long Beach State could tie the score.

Hawaii opened up the lead in the next inning, with some help from three walks and two hit batters. The key hit in the inning came from Collin Bennett, whose single scored two runs as the Rainbows took a 6-2 lead.

The Rainbows added two more runs in the ninth off of reliever Josh Corrales

The 49ers hit the road for their second straight weekend series, traveling to Corvallis, Oregon to play No. 9 Oregon State for three games. The series starts on Friday night with first pitch at 5:30 p.m.
