Joey Terdoslavich was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Branden Pinder earned his first win of the season as Long Beach State defeated No. 21 Wichita State 7-3. Devin Lohman added a pair of doubles and scored two runs for The Beach.

Long Beach State wasted no time in getting started on Sunday against the Shockers. Pinder retired the side in order in the first, and Brennan Metzger started the bottom half of the inning by reaching after getting hit by a pitch. Lohman then hit the first of his two doubles, scoring Metzger, and Terdoslavich followed with an RBI single to put the Dirtbags ahead 2-1.

Wichita State cut the lead to one on an RBI single from Ryan Jones in the fourth inning, but the Dirtbags answered with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to maintain a two-run lead.

The big inning for Long Beach State then came in the fifth. Pinder worked through a jam after surrendering a leadoff double to hold Wichita State scoreless, and the Dirtbags broke the game open in the bottom half of the inning.

Catcher Kellen Hoime drew a leadoff walk, and back-to-back singles from Metzger and Derek Legg got Long Beach State on the board in the frame. Terdoslavich then doubled to score both runners, and came home after an error by Tyler Grimes extended the inning, tallying the fourth run and making the score 7-1.

Brett Bascue had a solo homer in the eighth, and the Shockers scored one additional run in the ninth but couldn’t match the Dirtbag effort. Pinder earned his first win of the year, allowing one run over seven innings while striking out three. 

The Dirtbags take to the road for the next four games, facing LMU across town on Tuesday before playing UNLV for a three game set beginning on Friday, March 19.
