Derek Legg was 4-for-4 with a double and Adam Wilk pitched eight scoreless innings on the way to a 5-1 victory. The Dirtbag defense was also key, turning four double plays on the night.

The Dirtbags got a big inning in the second inning and went the rest of the distance on pitching and defense, turning four double plays to complement an outstanding pitching performance from Adam Wilk, who pitched 8.1 innings, striking out three and giving up just one run after returning for the ninth inning.

Derek Legg got the Dirtbags started in the second inning, cracking a leadoff double for the first of his four hits on the day. Pushed over on a bunt, Legg scored on an RBI single by Tinoco, and after a second hit, Jordan Casas tripled to score two more runs. An RBI groundout by Brennan Metzger rounded out the scoring for the Beach, who took an 4-0 lead.

Any threat for the rest of the way would be rubbed out in three double plays, and the Dirtbags added an insurance run on an RBI triple by Tinoco in the eighth.

Pacific mounted a rally in the ninth, loading the bases with one out and scoring a run on a walk by David Born. Charlie Ruiz entered at that point, and earned his ninth save of the year, inducing Josh Simms into a game ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Dirtbags and Tigers meet again Saturday for game two of the three-game series. Like Friday, first pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m., with the series finale scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
