Anyone with an ear for music who was in the dance tent at the Long Beach Pride Festival in May could hear DJ DaCapo’s excellent style and taste.  His abilities landed him a gig at the Olympic Games in Rio, where he’s finishing up an amazing week DJ’ing during the track cycling events in Rio’s Olympic Velodrome Arena.

“This has been an unbelievable experience!” said DaCapo, aka Tim Hampton. “Seeing the world’s best in so many different disciplines is flat-out inspiring. When you dedicate your life to something—anything—you can be great, no matter what your background or standing in life. That’s what I’m taking from these games.”

DaCapo took time from his busy schedule in Rio to send this exclusive report to the Long Beach Post.

“I’ve been through a lot in my life to get to this point right here. Not to mention three planes and a six hour bus ride from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—well over 6,000 miles,” he said. “This is the moment when everything finally hit me. I am an official DJ & music director for the Olympic World Games!!”

“The Olympic Velodrome Arena is where I am playing for the games. It is the stage for indoor track cycling which includes cyclists racing for time and/or position,” he said. “The track itself is steeply banked and consists of two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights. Riders can go up to speeds of 52.8 miles per hour. It has been said that the good beats of DJ DaCapo can increase rider’s speed and endurance!”

“Every morning I have breakfast then do my prep work on my hotel rooftop—the Hotel Atlantico Rio, here in Copacabana. It’s hard to believe that this is winter time right now in Brazil. Not complaining at all, but I will take a Caipirinha please! That’s Brazil’s signature cocktail and speaking of winter, there have been no signs of mosquitos anywhere—or Zika, for that matter.”

DaCapo barber

“Despite walking over an hour from Copacabana to Ipanema, getting caught in a flash rain storm, and miming my favorite type of hair styling, I was able to find a great barber and get a nice trim for the work week.”

DaCapo DJ

“Great Britain wins its first track Gold of these games in the Men’s team sprint and my day 2 is complete. Game production is getting tighter and we have found our groove.”

DaCapo volleyball

“Did such a great job at dress rehearsals last week that the boss gave us the day off so I had to check out a beach volleyball game where my good friend and business partner DJ Roueche was playing. GOOOO USA!!”

DaCapo drink

“Just enjoyed a great dinner on the beach in Copacabana capped off with this delicious Aqua de Coco (coconut water). Cheers to the Olympic World Games!”
