After the Jordan Panthers emerged victorious on Friday night, coach Scott Meyer put it best, “man, it’s been awhile.”
In their first victory since week one, the Panthers (2-6,1-3) used a reenergized running attack to grab a 33-22 victory over the Compton Tarbabes (3-4,1-3). Compton scored first with a short field after a bad punt, but the 8-0 lead would be the high-water mark for the Tarbabes in North LB.
Jordan scored 21 unanswered to take the lead back behind some great option play from quarterback Keith Nixon and a host of running backs. Compton came back to make it 27-16 after a touchdown by James McConico, but on the next Panther possession Nixon and receiver Anthony Smith hooked up for a few big plays, and running back Sanyo Taliu took it in for the put-away score.
“It’s big,” said Meyer of the win. “We said before the game that this was our first playoff game… we are still mathematically in it, and we have to play like that. We have to go take care of business next week against Wilson. You know what, it wasn’t big, this was huge.”
Compton will play Millikan next week.
