Free Zumba Classes will be held in the Sixth District this winter, thanks to Councilman Dee Andrews, who has been hosting a free Zumba event in October for the past two years in honor of breast cancer awareness.

If you’re looking to get fit or stay fit during this holiday season, Zumba might be right up your alley. The cardio class uses a mix of Latin and International music to create a high-energy, fun and effective workout. According to the release, the sessions are designed using an interval training format, combining different rhythms with movements meant to tone and sculpt the body.

“To stay fit, we must move the body,” said Andrews in a statement. “Zumba is pretty much the most awesome workout ever. Dance to great music, with great people, and burn a ton of calories without even realizing it.”

The event was created by Long Beach local Michele Scott, an ambassador for the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Awareness and a member of The Rock Church, according to the release.

“I created this event because it is my passion to give back to the community and to raise awareness about cancer,” said Scott in a statement.

Two classes, which are free and open to the public, will be held on the following Saturdays: November 14 and 21, December 5, 12 and 19 and January 9 and 23rd. The class times are 11:00AM to 12:00PM and 12:15PM to 1:15PM. For more information, please call 562.570.6816.

The classes will be held at the Ernest S. McBride Park Gym, located at 1550 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.
