It may not have been the prettiest of league title-clinching matches, but on the scoreboard it was immaculate. The Wilson Bruins overcame the host Lakewood Lancers and a puddle for a pitch on the way to a 6-0 victory that clinches the eighth title in the last nine years for the Bruins.

With the latest rounds of rain fresh on the already torn up field, the two teams ended up running through mud and water for most of the afternoon.  That still wasn’t enough to slow down the Bruins who scored twice in the first 20 minutes.

“We jumped on them quick and that worked for us the first time we played,” said Wilson coach Jason Kirkwood.  “The girls played well, and we got out injury free… now hopefully we can stay sick free.”

The Bruins warmed up quick with a hat trick from Renee Mendiola in the first half.  In the 13th minute, Emily Dillon put a nice lead ball in open space just wide of the goal.  Mendiola knocked it in off the crossbar with her left foot, then added her second goal seven minutes later off a corner kick from Dillon.  The trifecta was complete in the 39th minute off another corner kick, this time from Kaitlin Hellmann.

Dillon added a goal of her own on a penalty kick early in the second half.  Chloe Gharios and Kristyn Benavidez rounded off the days scoring.

Wilson will celebrate Senior Day on Thursday at home against Millikan.  Lakewood will travel to Poly for a second place face-off.

POLY  11   COMPTON  0
The Jackrabbits got some great play from their underclassman on the road yesterday in an 11-0 victory over Compton.  Freshman Ari Fernandez (4) Nikki Wadley (2) and Celeste Dominguez (2) combined for most of the offensive pressure and 8 of the 11 goals.

Poly will host Lakewood on Thursday in a game that will decide second place in the Moore League.
