With four regular starters on the shelf yesterday in the Aliso Cup, the Wilson Bruins hunkered down on defense and used Kristyn Benavidez’s second half goal to earn a 1-0 decision over Dana Hills.

The Bruins out shot the Dolphins 15-to-5 in the game and there was little worry they would tie after Benavidez chipped one over the keeper’s head just seconds into the second half.

On the opening kickoff of the second stanza, Krosby Pabst took the first pass and placed a perfect volley for a sprinting Benavidez on the outside.  The Long Beach State-bound senior took one touch to control and put a beautiful ball top shelf for the eventual game-winner.

The win improves Wilson’s record in the Aliso Cup to 2-0, and the Bruins will play fellow 2-0 squad Esperanza on Saturday morning at 8am at Aliso Niguel High for the right to play in the semifinals of the prestigious tournament.
