The Wilson Bruins and coach Jason Kirkwood were in control all afternoon at home yesterday in their 5-0 victory over Cabrillo.  The win get Wilson to 3-0-1 in league while Cabrillo falls to 0-4.  The Jags fought hard and coach Jorge Polanco says his team is learning to fight with the likes of Poly and Wilson, but the depth and skill is entirely different.

Emily Dillon scored the hat trick with a goal in the first half and two in the second.  The West Virginia-bound senior put a free kick from five yards wide of the box into the top shelf on the far post for her final goal.  The perfectly placed ball put the exclamation mark on a game in which if Kirkwood asked for it, he almost always got it.  At times, listening to the Wilson sideline was like listening a skilled gamer play FIFA 2010.

“It’s a lot easier when you just have to have the talent, and know what good soccer is,” said Kirkwood.  “We haven’t had a lot of turnover here and we teach the same thing at every level…[the girls] and especially this team, know what they’re supposed to be doing, and like I said, the talent.”

Kirkwood doesn’t move much on the sideline, and while in a crouch towards the end of the first half he politely called out instructions before a Cabrillo free kick.  When the ball was kicked into the wall and bounced high to Dillon at the top of the box, Kickwood said, “clear it wide.”  That’s what Dillon did.  Chloe Gharios got under the ball and Kickwood said, “settle and turn.  That’s what Gharios did.  She found Kim Albeno on the sideline and Kirkwood said, “to the corner… cross.”  That’s what Albeno did, and Krosby Pabst header was just wide.

In the second half his whistle and point got a set piece goal when the bouncing ball in the box whet right were he had just cleared.  But the most impressive was Dillon’s third score.

After getting tripped up just wide of the penalty box, Dillon thought it should be a card.  Kirkwood told Dillon it was okay, and that “you can get your revenge on this one… put it high, back post, but make sure you keep it in the frame.”  As if he had already seen the play, that’s how it played out…

Dillon turned and gave Kirkwood a coy thumbs up.  For the first time all day, Kirkwood smiled.

The Wilson girls’ soccer machine will be playing at home again on Thursday @ 3pm against the up-and-coming Lakewood Lancers (4-0) for soul possession of first place in the Moore League.  The Lances beat the Jordan Panthers 7-0 as forward tandem Kendahl Fisher and Kassidy Hause continued to lead the way. Fisher had a hat trick, and Hause added two more scores. Cabrillo will travel to Jordan on Thursday.
